Thunderbird is a free, open-source email client by Mozilla. It is our recommended desktop email client for use with our mail platform.
Desktop Setup
- Open Thunderbird.
- If this is your first time, click Skip this and use my existing email address. Otherwise go to File → New → Existing Mail Account…
- Enter your name (
Your Name), your email address (yourname@clientdomain.co.uk), and your password. Tick Remember password and click Continue. - Once settings are detected automatically, make sure IMAP is selected and click Done.
- To sync contacts, click the arrow next to Address Books and click Connect for each address book.
- To sync calendars, click the arrow next to Calendars and click Connect for each calendar.
- (Optional) To sync all subfolders: open Account Settings → Server Settings → Advanced and uncheck Show only subscribed folders.
- Click Finish.
Android (Thunderbird Mobile)
Install either from the Google Play Store or F-Droid.
- Open the app and tap Add Account (or the + icon).
- Enter your email address and password, then tap Manual Setup.
- Choose IMAP as the account type.
- Incoming (IMAP) server settings:

- Tap Next, optionally set a display name, then complete the setup.
Note: K-9 Mail does not support native CardDAV/CalDAV. Use DAVx5; or ICSx5; for contacts and calendars.
